Happy New Year from Sydney!

Updated: Mar 17

Hello 2023!

Wow! Blink and you missed it! 2022 is done and we’re into a new year. I finished 2022 with the most incredible New Year’s Eve in Sydney and I was not disappointed!

Started off the day with calling my family back home in the UK, catching up with what they’d been doing since Christmas and finding out what their plans were for new year festivities. After that, it was time to get up and ready for the day and head out to meet my friends Evie and Lochie for lunch.

I jumped on the bus and headed into the city. We had lunch at City Extra on Circular Quay. After lunch we walked up to the entrance to Mrs Macquarie’s Point in the Royal Botanical Gardens. This was a ticketed event (cost $45) and the gates opened at 3pm. After queuing for around an hour, a quick bag search and being given our wrist bands, we found a pretty good spot with a view of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

There were food trucks and water stations to keep everyone going and you could take picnic food in with you. Throughout the afternoon and evening, the atmosphere was building and everyone was buzzing.

At around 8:30pm, the Pylons and Bridge were lit up and at 9pm, the first firework display commenced. I teared up when the fireworks started - I just couldn’t believe I was there, in Sydney, on New Year’s Eve. People were cheering and clapping. The display lasted around 10 minutes and then lots of people, particularly those with children, left.

There were various lighting displays on the bridge after the first firework display. Particularly, at 11pm, there was the ‘Sydney Welcomes World Pride 2023’ which was wonderful. The bridge lit up with the colours of the Pride Flag and then the colours chased each other across the bridge.

We packed up our stuff so we were ready to go straight after the fireworks. The buzz was building, the atmosphere was electric. It was almost time for the big display…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2023 was welcomed with cheers and woops and clapping as the fireworks exploded from the bridge and around the harbour! IT WAS AMAZING! There were times where I didn’t know where to look and just stood there in awe of where I was and what was going on. I just can’t believe I was there for the best firework display in the world.

If you haven’t seen any clips on the display, click this link and watch the full display. It was amazing!

So grateful for the people I have met and the opportunities I have had throughout 2022. Here’s to a cracking 2023!
