From Munich, I travelled to a new country, the 7th country for this trip, AUSTRIA! I arrived in Salzburg, the home of The Sound of Music Tour and some very iconic filming locations.
The Sound of Music, starring the incredible Julie Andrews, is one of my all time favourite films so to do the tour and see the filming locations, was a must do activity!
The Sound of Music Tour cost £52. The tour lasts 4 hours and runs twice a day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon). I booked the tour through Get Your Guide. This is a coach tour with stops in various locations such as the Von Trapp villas (yes, villas), the gazebo where Liesl and Rolf dance in the rain, and the beautiful church the Captain and Maria get married. While on the tour, you’ll be given facts about the real Von Trapp family as well as the film and you’ll even get the opportunity to sing-along to some of the iconic tunes from the film. Stops at locations give you plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the scenery – some of the facts given will surprise you and you’ll end up watching the film from a new perspective and enjoy it even more!
Where to stay in Salzburg
I stayed at YoHo International Youth Hostel. It cost £50 for 2 nights in a female-only 6 bed dorm room. The dorm itself was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom facilities were good and clean. The hostel staff were very friendly. The hostel was within walking distance to a good bus route and the city centre.
If you visit Salzburg during autumn/winter (November-January), there is an ice rink and christmas/winter activities in the city centre. There’s also a huge number of places to eat – I recommend Dodo’s Vietnamese Kitchen (try the Pad Thai, it was amazing). You can also visit the Mozart museum and house.
Salzburg was a great place to visit and seeing the sights and locations from one of my favourite films was so cool! I’d love to go back and see more someday.
